Marty
Beyond the Battle: Marty's Pickleball Journey
For Marty, pickleball has been more than a game—it’s been a lifeline through her battle with cancer. Even during grueling treatments, she found strength, laughter, and community on the courts at Ronnie Grandison Sports Academy.
“I’m still smiling, still laughing, and still playing pickleball,” Marty says. “This community keeps me coming back.”

Gilbert
Finding Balance Through Pickleball: Gilbert’s Story
When Gilbert retired after 35 years in his career, he went looking for a healthy activity. What he discovered in pickleball was more than just exercise—it became a source of energy for his body, mind, and soul.
“Pickleball challenges me physically, keeps my mind sharp, and lifts my spirit,” Gilbert says. “I’ve met so many friendly people who just want to have fun—it’s the perfect balance.”

Joanne
Finding Community, Confidence, and Joy through Pickleball
Joanne discovered pickleball in 2017, back when plywood paddles were still part of the game. What began as casual quickly turned into a passion—it wasn’t until moving to the area and starting a new chapter that pickleball became something more.
“I didn’t know many people when I moved here,” Joanne shared. “Through pickleball, I found friendships, connection, and a community I didn’t even know I was missing.”
